Moving Away From Home
Having decided on what university to apply to, your son/daughter may be thinking of living away from home. This can be a stressful time for you, worrying about how they will cope living away from home, will they be safe, will they get into financial difficulties, so we recommend that you get fully involved in their accommodation choices.
We may be the largest university in Ireland, but students here don’t get lost in the crowd. Each campus has a friendly and intimate atmosphere and the personal touch is vital to our success.
To ensure that your son or daughter settles in to university life, we guarantee them a place in our acommodation in their first year of study, as long as they have made the University of Ulster their first choice during application. Our accommodation is reasonably priced, and modern, and includes electricity and heating costs! So, you don’t have to worry if they have left enough cash over to keep warm!
The majority of accommodation contracts run from September until June, including the Christmas and Easter vacations. We also have an excellent support network to help each student settle in to university life. For students with disability issues, we ensure that properties are adapted, if necessary, to suit individual needs.
We invite parents/guardians and applicants along to open days during the summer, so that you can have a look at our accommodation, and decide what option best suits your son/daughter.

Spending Time Wisely
We ask parents to work with us on ensuring that your son/daughter spends their time wisely whilst at university. Our Charter asks that students “will not behave in an anti-social manner, on or off-campus and that they will behave in a responsible manner in respect of the accommodation they occupy, relations with co-habitants, neighbours and the local community. Anti-social behaviour may result in disciplinary action.
Good conduct on the part of all members of the University community is essential for the wellbeing and safety of others and for the maintenance of an environment in which students and staff can work and study effectively.
At Ulster we value our good reputation, therefore any misconduct by students which discredits the University on or off campus is taken very seriously. All complaints are fully investigated in accordance with the University Ordinance XL1 (Student Discipline Procedure). Where appropriate, disciplinary action will be initiated against students found to be in breach of this Ordinance.
