About the Campuses
By choosing to study at Ulster you will not only have an excellent academic experience but also the opportunity to visit many of the local attractions and scenic locations close to each campus. From the Titanic Quarter in Belfast, the world-famous Giant’s Causeway, water sports and boating on Loughs Neagh and Erne, climbing the Mourne Mountains, experiencing Bushcraft Wilderness Survival skills on Coney Island to music and art festivals and top sporting venues – there is something for everyone!
Belfast campus
In the vibrant city centre
Belfast is the best value UK city for tourists, according to a new cost comparison index from the travel website TripAdvisor. The campus is located in the Cathedral Quarter in the heart of the vibrant city centre with its excellent high street shopping, café culture, restaurants, museums, clubs, theatres and cinemas.
Belfast is the venue for a number of leading music and arts events including the recent MTV Awards 2011. The nearby Titanic Quarter is home to the Belfast Waterfront and the Odyssey Arena, local venues for exciting concerts, plays and exhibitions. The night scene has been booming in recent years with the opening of many new clubs and trendy bars throughout the city and is buzzing all year round.
On-campus facilities include purpose-built design space, recording studios, exhibition areas, a training restaurant and a well-equipped library. You will have lots of choice of where to eat on campus with the Tao Noodle Bar, The Streat, the Studio Bar and the Academy Restaurant.
The Students’ Union is the hub of social life and a popular venue on the Belfast music circuit.

Coleraine campus
Capital of the Causeway Coast
The campus is situated on the north bank of the River Bann with views of the Causeway Coast and the Donegal hills in the distance and the coastal towns of Portrush and Portstewart on its doorstep. The “Causeway Coast” is home to some of Ireland’s most popular attractions such as the Giant’s Causeway, Dunluce Castle, excellent beaches offering exciting water sports including sailing, surfing and swimming. The sporting home of British Open champion Darren Clarke, the Royal Portrush Golf Club, is close to the campus.
The campus has a warm and friendly atmosphere which radiates a strong community feel. You will find everything you need on campus from accommodation, cafés, a supermarket, banks, hairdressing salon to excellent study and leisure facilities which include nursing, science and computing laboratories, media studios, an optometry clinic and a well-equipped library. The Students’ Union is the focus of student entertainment, and students can join a number of clubs and societies.
Sports facilities are excellent with a Fitness Studio which boasts the latest cardiovascular equipment including a Technogym Wellness Centre, squash courts, a solarium and steam room and outdoor artificial tennis courts and sports pitches.

Jordanstown campus
On the Lough Shore, a few miles from Belfast city centre
The campus overlooks the Loughshore seafront Park which hosts various musical events and festivals throughout the year. It is close to the village of Whiteabbey, and the historic coastal town of Carrickfergus with its marina, multi-screen cinema, bars, restaurants, harbour and vibrant sailing club.
From the campus you can drive or cycle along the coastal road which leads to the nine Glens of Antrim made famous in poetry, song, myth and magic. Each glen, lush green places with the sound of water, weaves its own special magic.
The campus has a village feel with everything on your doorstep- excellent study and leisure facilities, a supermarket, banks, cafés, restaurants, on-campus accommodation and a health centre. Study facilities include science and computing laboratories and a modern library.
Sports facilities are excellent for the casual user or the elite athlete. The High Performance Centre maximises training needs for sports competitors and facilities include a gymnasium, squash and tennis courts, a floodlit sand-based synthetic grass pitch and outdoor pitches. The Students’ Union is a popular meeting place for students.

Magee campus
Derry – City of Culture 2013

Magee campus is located in the centre of the historical, yet modern and dynamic city of Londonderry. The city is the gateway to the northwest of Ireland with all its excellent tourist attractions. Derry is rich in history and culture, but also has all the attractions a major modern city can offer including high street shopping, cafés, bars, clubs, restaurants and a leisure centre. Derry has outpaced all UK and Ireland cities to achieve a fibre broadband milestone by introducing major broadband technology. This will help Derry realise its ambition to be a creative and digitally connected city.
The city is renowned for its rich social and thriving music scene, and rightly deserves to be City of Culture in 2013. The celebrations will include hosting the Turner Prize, the most important event in the UK’s contemporary art calendar. This is the first time that this major event has been held outside England.
The city is an official host port and competitor in the Clipper Round the World Yacht Race being held in July 2012. This is the first time that Northern Ireland has been represented in the race which attracts a global audience of more than 460 million people.
Students studying at Magee campus comment on the friendly atmosphere amoung staff and students. You can study a range of subjects including Law, Social Work, Nursing, IT and languages. Our Centre for the Creative and Performing Arts, unique on the island of Ireland, offers degree courses in dance, design, drama and music. Study facilities include computing and nursing laboratories and a modern library which also contains a section of rare books.
The excellent on-campus sports facilities make keeping fit easy, or keeping up with your sport at elite athlete level. If you choose to live away from home, university accommodation is available on and close to the campus. The Students’ Union organises a wide range of social events, including weekly themed events in the Bunker Bar.

Somewhere to live?
The Coleraine, Jordanstown and Magee campuses offer modern accommodation in the form of Halls and apartments. Some students opt to live off campus, especially around the 'Triangle' of Coleraine, Portrush and Portstewart. Belfast is a popular choice for Jordanstown campus students.

Sports – Be active, be involved, be outstanding
During your time at Ulster you will have an unrivalled opportunity to participate in a variety of sports. You can joins sports clubs, from Aikido to Volley!
Coleraine campus boasts two sports halls, squash courts, a solarium, a steam room, a strength and conditioning suite, and a fitness studio with the latest cardiovascular equipment from the Technogym Wellness System. In addition to the five different types of aerobic training available, the facilities also contain the latest fixed weight training machines and a range of free weight equipment.
The Coleraine campus also offers outdoor facilities including grass tennis courts, football pitches, pitches for Gaelic sports, a synthetic hockey pitch, rugby pitches, a cricket pitch, a pavilion and a multi-sports area.
Jordanstown campus facilities include a Technogym Wellness System suite with kinesis wall, indoor sports halls, acclimatisation chamber, strength and conditioning suite, gymnasium, squash courts, floodlit sand-based synthetic grass hockey pitch, outdoor tennis courts and grass pitches to facilitate soccer, rugby and gaelic games.
These facilities are further enhanced with the new £20 million world-class sports facilities which were formally opened by Lord Coe, Chair of the London Organising Committee for the Olympic Games in 2008.

Magee campus was the first university sports centre in the UK and Ireland to achieve QUEST registration – the UK Quality Award for sport and recreation services.
Sports facilities offer students, staff and the community a fantastic choice of classes, children’s clubs and sports courses through indoor and outdoor facilities such as a sports hall, studio, pavilion, grass pitch, synthetic pitch and a rugby scrum machine. Our Sports Union has over 70 sports clubs ranging from camogie, golf and mountaineering, to fencing, gliding and surfing. Individual and team achievement is recognised and celebrated each year at our Colours Awards ceremony.
However, you don’t have to be a sporting superstar to enjoy our sports facilities. We encourage sport at all levels, whether for fun or for serious sporting achievement.
Belfast campus current has no on-campus facilities at our Belfast campus but students and staff can become members of the sports facilities at the Jordanstown campus.
